Andrea Brown
Andrea Brown is part of the first team of KCCAN College and Career Advisors and will be at East High School. As a graduate from the University of Missouri, she received her Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and Black Studies and also studied a minor in English. Her academic pursuit heavily involved topics surrounding racial and social inequalities. While at MU, she served as a facilitator for the Diversity Peer Educators Program and also conducted research with the McNair Scholars Program analyzing the portrayal of Black women in media. In her previous role, Andrea served as a college adviser at Ruskin High School with the Missouri College Advising Corps (MCAC), assisting low-income and first-generation high school students access postsecondary opportunities. While in that role, Andrea received the MCAC Ann Korschegen Pioneer award, which recognized her great work as a MCAC adviser. Andrea has also served with Lead to Read KC and coached volleyball at Ruskin High School for the freshman girls’ volleyball team.
