PDI + PEN: College Application Storytelling After SFAA v. Harvard
September 13 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am CDT
Workshop Title: College Application Storytelling After SFAA v. Harvard
Workshop Description: Students for Fair Admissions v Harvard didn’t just eliminate race-based affirmative action from college admissions, but created a framework for how students must talk about their identity across the whole application. During this presentation we will:
- Explain the Supreme Court and the Office for Civil Rights’ approaches to storytelling on the college application
- Offer counselors concrete, ready-to-use tools for teaching students how to create their applications
- Instruction not just on what should go in the application but how to actually do it
Presenter: Dr. Stephen Himes of Storyboards College Admission Portfolio
Dr. Himes has a J.D./Ed.D with an emphasis in Civil Rights in Education Law. As a member of the Education Law Association, he presents nationwide on how Supreme Court decisions like SFFA v. Harvard contribute to school resegregation and the opportunity gap.
Who should attend: High school counselors, college and career advisors, community-based practitioners, college/institution partners
