SUMMARY:PDI: Helping Students Make Strong Career Decisions (virtual)
DESCRIPTION:What do you want to be when you grow up! Many people think that career decision making starts in college or when you get your first job. In actuality\, career decision making starts the first time someone asks you to think about your future aspirations. In the US\, this line of inquiry typically starts in grade school; yet\, the US does not have a comprehensive system for helping to facilitate the career decision making of youth\, nor is their shared language between K-12 professionals and college administrators around career decision making. Despite these cultural shortfalls\, educators have the opportunity to have “career conversations” with students every day that will help them become self-aware\, explore their options and choose future pathways including selecting high school programs and college majors. This session will empower educators to help students make career decisions and choose college majors by focusing on the following: \n\nUnderstanding the career decision making process\nIdentifying strategies for discussing careers with students\nHighlighting the intersection between academics\, college admissions and career decision making\n\nPresenter: Dr. Lakeisha Mathews\, Director\, Career & Internship Center\, University of Baltimore and owner of Right Resumes and Career Coaching. \nREGISTER FOR WORKSHOP HERE
